2019 Weeds AR Wild Research Summaries

By: Tommy Butts, Extension Weed Scientist

The 2019 Weeds AR Wild Rice and Soybean Research Summaries are now available on the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture Cooperative Extension Service Website. The purpose of these research summaries is to make some of the weed science research that was conducted as a part of the Weeds AR Wild program in the previous year publically available. These research summaries can be found at: https://www.uaex.uada.edu/farm-ranch/pest-management/weed/field-crops.aspx.

The data presented in these publications are intended to help growers, county agents, crop consultants, specialists, and industry representatives make unbiased decisions concerning best management practices for effective weed management. They represent results from only one year of research, and although it may serve as a guide, making decisions based on only one-year worth of data is always risky. Many of these same treatments will be included in subsequent year’s research, and as additional data are collected, the better treatments will be included in Extension recommendations. Check the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture MP-44 publication, “Recommended Chemicals for Weed and Brush Control,” for current Arkansas weed management recommendations. Some of the chemicals and application methods included in these research summaries are not labeled for use in the manner they were evaluated. Always read and follow the label directions on all herbicides to ensure proper use.

The rice and soybean research presented within the Weeds AR Wild Research Summaries was made possible due to grower check-off dollars provided through the Arkansas Rice Research and Promotion Board and the Arkansas Soybean Promotion Board. We thank the Arkansas growers, crop consultants, and commodity board members for their support, as without it, this research would not be possible. We would also like to thank the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture for their continued support of our research and Extension efforts.

We would also be remiss if we did not thank our industry supporters. We appreciate the support in the 2019 growing season from numerous industry sponsors, and look forward to continued collaboration.
