Diabetes Nutrition Resources

Diabetes is a metabolic disorder characterized by the body’s inability to process or respond to insulin.

Nationally, an estimated 10.9% of the population, or 25.8 million people, have diabetes. In Arkansas, the prevalence rate is higher than the national rate, estimated to be 13.5% or approximately 308,000 Arkansans.  Sadly there are an additional 70,000 Arkansans who do not know they have diabetes.  Every year, approximately 23,000 people in Arkansas are diagnosed with diabetes.
