Hedge Apple

This past week my husband and I were driving through western Arkansas and over into Oklahoma. We saw a tree growing in the forest that had green fruit with little nubs growing on it about the size of a small grapefruit. We have seen these in the past, but do not remember the name of the tree or fruit. Can you help us?

Without seeing a picture, my guess would be Maclura pomifera, commonly called Osage Orange, Bodark or Hedge Apple. The female tree produces grapefruit sized fruits. See if these pictures look like the leaves and fruit.
