Reliable information to improve quality of life.

Life-long learning is part of EHC. Non-formal educational lessons are used with Arkansas Extension Homemakers in local, club meetings with a goal of increasing awareness, increasing knowledge, enhancing skills, and practical application.  The goal is to improve quality of life. Generally, the lessons are taught by a leader within the club who received training on the topic.

The following EHC Lesson Guides were developed by the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture Cooperative Extension Service for use in program planning with the Arkansas Extension Homemakers Council. These educational lessons were developed by subject matter experts in their respective areas of concentration.

Lesson guides are available to County Extension Agents on shared Box folders. For more information contact

Taking prescription medication is a part of the daily routine for approximately 60% of U.S. adults. Responsible medication disposal can easily become just as routine. Improper disposal of unused or expired medications has the potential to result in drugs getting into our environment (air, water, food), or into the hands of at-risk populations, like infants and youth. This lesson describes do’s and don’ts of medication disposal, including take-back guidance, how to protect yourself and others from potential harmful effects of unsecured medication.

Daily affirmations can help boost your mood and focus. This lesson offers space to find or create daily affirmations and discuss ways to use them effectively.

A balanced diet is important for brain health. But which foods are most likely to support brain function as we age? This lesson explores which foods have been most heavily researched – and which foods have been associated with the preservation of brain function as we age.

Family heirlooms, sentimental memories and meaningful artifacts bring special concern to the issue of estate planning. Land, bank accounts and cars are examples of titled property. Titled property is often transferred by means of property ownership titles, designated beneficiaries, or wills. Non-titled property – items such as jewelry, furniture, and family photographs – often have more sentimental value. By planning ahead, you can make sure your non-titled property is distributed the way you want.

Understanding Personalities

One of the biggest challenges we face when communicating with others is that individuals often have very different approaches to life. A highly organized person may become frustrated with a co-worker who is creative but disorganized. An abstract thinker may be dismissive of a task-oriented person who cannot see the big picture. These differences can lead to conflict and communication problems. Understanding personality types provide one way to see how people make decisions and why they sometimes clash. They help us understand what situations are likely to stress particular people. And they can help us communicate more effectively based on a better understanding of ourselves and how we relate to others. Credit to Michelle Collins & Julie King, 2004

With the advent of online networking capability, social media is QUICKLY becoming a large part of our daily lives – not only for personal use, but for business use as well.
