LeadAR Class 20 Spotlight-Christel Taylor

Photo of Christel Taylor Let’s meet another member of LeadAR Class 20. Christel Taylor is the director of workforce and downtown development at Newport Economic Development/Chamber of Commerce. We asked her to respond to these questions.

Why did you apply to the LeadAR program? What motivated you?

I wanted a broader knowledge of programs on a state level.

What leadership quality do you admire most in others? Why?

I would say listening. Good leaders can listen to help resolve conflict or facilitate problem solving.

What is something people would be surprised to learn about you? Why is this surprising?

While I was in high school, my family made moonshine on my front porch.

What are your top three ingredients necessary for success?

Adaptability, self-motivation, and setting goals.

What are your top three ingredients necessary for happiness?

Family, friends, and good food.

Describe your personal leadership style.

I think one should lead by example.

What is something you hope to gain from your LeadAR experience?

New ideas for my community!

How can effective leadership help move the state of Arkansas forward?

If you do not have good leadership, you will move backwards by default.

You are stranded on a desert island. What are your three MUST HAVE items?

If we are talking like stranded on Survivor, I would want water, shelter, and wine.

What is something that was difficult for you six months ago but easy for you now?

I have always struggled with public speaking. I am more comfortable with it now.

What else do you want others to know about you?

My midlife crisis is that I took in two chihuahua pups. The rest of my time I usually spend baking a cake or trying out a new recipe.
