Cleaning/Brick Stones

February 2008

Question

I have a low-rise painted brick wall in my front yard that had box shrubs growing up against it. When I cut the shrubs back, the white painted brick is black! What can I use to clean the brick that won't mess up the plants?

AnswerA bleach solution should work. Just make sure that the soil is well watered before applying the bleach to the bricks, and then really pour the water on after you scrub it off. Avoid getting bleach on the foliage of the plants and make sure you do water well before and afterwards.
