FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Soil fertility can heavily impact production agriculture. With several sampling, testing, and tracking options available, researchers want to know how Arkansas producers approach soil fertility management.

The survey, available at bit.ly/soilsurvey2023, will remain open until July 31, 2023, and covers soil sampling and testing habits, soil fertility management plans and more.

“Answers to this survey will help our team identify research and educational priorities for soil sampling, soil testing, and nutrient management in Arkansas,” said Aurelie Poncet, assistant professor of precision agriculture for the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station, the research arm of the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture. “This survey is part of a larger project that will help us better understand stakeholders’ current and emerging needs for optimized crop management.”

The overarching purpose of Poncet’s program is to provide cost-effective tools and recommendations to Arkansas crop producers. With data from this survey, she plans to ensure her program meets the stakeholder needs and priorities.”

“My goal is to help Arkansas producers increase farm profitability with precision agriculture,” Poncet said. “I am working on several web tools that will deliver data-driven recommendations to Arkansas farmers proven to work under field conditions and tailored to the producers’ unique goals, environment, and available resources.”

Poncet said those answering the survey will be asked to provide their name and email address in addition to the typical demographic questions such as farm size, county, age and years of experience, but this information will only be used to identify duplicate answers. The data will be aggregated in a way to protect the participants’ identities.

The survey has Institutional Review Board approval — Protocol No. 2207412722 — and is funded by the Arkansas Soil Test Review Board.
