Time to think red: Tomatoes at the Trotter

MONTICELLO, Ark. — Nearly a dozen heirloom tomato varieties will be on the menu at the University of Arkansas at Monticello’s ninth annual Tomatoes at the Trotter event, scheduled for Thursday, June 27. 

Cherry Tomatoes

The event is hosted by the UAM College of Forestry, Agriculture and Natural Resources, and will be held at the UAM Trotter House Bed and Breakfast in Monticello’s North Main Street Historic District.
Aramark Chef Thomas Bedward will prepare this year’s meal — a four-course dinner relying primarily on Arkansas-grown tomatoes, including heirloom varieties that are open pollinated and are at least 50 years old.

Tickets are $30.00 per person and include dinner as well as tomato recipes and growing tips.

  • Who: Keynote speaker is Former State Representative and Chairman of the Arkansas Highway Commission, John Lipton. Lipton introduced the Pink Tomato as State Vegetable and State Fruit.
  • Where: Trotter House, 404 North Main Street, Monticello AR
  • Why: To raise scholarship money for students attending the University of Arkansas at Monticello in the College of Forestry, Agriculture, and Natural Resources.
  • When: Thursday, June 27, 2019, Tasting starts at 6:30 p.m. followed by meal at 7 p.m.
  • Cost: $30 per person
