Crops research field day to offer insight into latest findings in agricultural research

MARIANNA, Ark. – Growers, consultants and other agriculture industry professionals are invited to see the latest in row crop research findings at the Crops Research Field Day, held at the Lon Mann Cotton Research Station in Marianna on Thursday, Aug. 15.
Agronomists and researchers with the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture will discuss a wide range of topics throughout the half-day event, including integrated pest management; frequently encountered diseases in corn, cotton grain sorghum and soybean; irrigation scheduling, fertility and crop rotation studies.
“Farmers face so many decisions today, regarding variety choices, management options and available technology,” said Claude Kennedy, resident director of the Lon Mann Cotton Research Station. “Our objective for the field day is to demonstrate Division of Agriculture research programs that give growers the best information by which they can make the optimal decisions to ensure the success of their crops.”
A field tour will bring attendees face-to-face with crop experts across the research station. The tour begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Dan Felton Jr. Building, and conclude at 11:25 a.m. Special guest U.S. Representative Rick Crawford will address attendees shortly before lunch.
Participants may register the morning of the event, beginning at 7:45 a.m. There is no cost to attend, and lunch will be provided. The Lon Mann Cotton Research Station is located at 3121 Highway 1 South, Marianna, Arkansas.
The current field day agenda is as follows:
- 7:45 a.m. – Registration, atrium at the Dan Felton Jr. Building
- 8:15 a.m. – Welcome by station Director Claude Kennedy
- 8:25 a.m. – Tour departs
- 11:40 a.m. – Felton Building
- 11:50 a.m. – U.S. Rep. Rick Crawford
- Noon – Summary by Nathan Slaton, associate director, Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station
- 12:10 p.m. – Door prizes
- 12:20 p.m. – Lunch
