LITTLE ROCK – The upcoming 2015 Breakthrough Solutions Conference will focus on communities growing their own jobs, said Dell Gines, Senior Community Development Adviser with the Omaha Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.

“Rural communities are looking for new ways of development,” said Gines. “They are taking the new kinds of economic development seriously now.” Gines will be the keynote speaker at the June 4 conference.

With the theme “Building Your Community’s Future Through Fresh Thinking and Bold Action,” conference organizers hope to provide community and regional leaders with insights, tools, and solutions that they can use to create communities that are vibrant, sustainable, and resilient, said Mark Peterson, professor of community and economic development with the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture.

Peterson said the conference will provide Arkansas community leaders and citizens with a unique opportunity to see the world anew – to learn how to see your community with fresh thinking and an entrepreneurial world view, to discover opportunities in eight critical issue areas, and hear about seven exciting community projects from across the state.

The conference will include sessions on these topics:

    • Re-Purposing Buildings for Community and Economic Development
    • Growing Entrepreneurs in Your Community
    • Building a Local Foods System for Your Community
    • Moving Your Community Forward with Technology
    • “A Crisis is a Terrible Thing to Waste”
    • Engaging the Millennials in Your Community
    • Developing a 21st Century Workforce for 21st Century Employers
    • Funding and Financing Community and Economic Development

In addition, a June 3 pre-conference workshop, “Fresh Thinking and Bold Action Through Branding Your Community,” will highlight community branding success stories and provide participants with a great opportunity to learn how powerful branding can be to attract visitors, residents, and businesses to your community.  The process will focus on two Arkansas communities.
