The Arkansas Plant Health Clinic

What's Wrong With My Plant?

Plants get sick too. Many plant problems look alike, and symptoms alone do not equal diagnosis. Diseases, insects, environmental stresses, and other issues can cause similar symptoms, making accurate diagnosis the first step toward effective management.

The Arkansas Plant Health Clinic provides unbiased diagnosis of plant diseases, pests, and other plant health problems, with management recommendations you can trust. We serve homeowners, gardeners, commercial growers, landscapers, nursery professionals, and Extension personnel throughout Arkansas.

Located in Fayetteville, the Arkansas Plant Health Clinic is part of the Cooperative Extension Service within the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture. We diagnose problems affecting plants across Arkansas landscapes, gardens, lawns, nurseries, orchards, and agricultural production systems.

Submitting a Plant Sample

An accurate diagnosis starts with a good sample. Fresh plant material that represents the full range of symptoms observed give us the best chance of determining the cause of the problem.

Before submitting a sample, please review our sample submission guidelines to learn what plant material to include. In addition to plant material, please provide:

  • A clear description of the symptoms you are observing and are concerned about (what is changing, when it started, and how it is progressing)
  • Photos of the plant in its landscape or growing environment (overall view plus close-ups of affected areas)
  • Basic background information, such as plant type, age, location, sun exposure, drainage conditions, and any recent fertilizer or pesticide applications

Samples may be submitted through your local county Extension office or delivered directly to the Plant Health Clinic in Fayetteville. All samples are entered into our PClinic database and archived as part of our diagnostic records.
