LITTLE ROCK — In just six weeks, the state’s largest and longest-lived celebration of horticulture and landscaping will return to the Arkansas State Fairgrounds as the Arkansas Flower and Garden Show celebrates its 29th year.
The 2020 show will take place Feb. 28, 29 and March 1. After operating for many years in a downtown location, the show’s executive director and board were enthused to offer attendees free and plentiful parking.
The theme of the 2020 show is “A Gardening Odyssey,” and will feature both new elements and those that bring flower and garden lovers back year after year. Executive director Mary Beth Rogers said garden lovers will find the fairgrounds more inviting than ever before.
“2020 is ushering some fantastic new things for the show,” Rogers said. “We are excited to announce First Community Bank as a new Platinum Sponsor, and we also have added a display by created by P. Allen Smith, making a total of seven inspirational display gardens, plus the always-popular train garden.
“We have something for everyone this year, including the kids,” she said. “The first 50 kids who come to the show each day will receive a free small plant they can grow. We have a lot of vendors you can't find just anywhere, so we hope everyone will come out to the show and learn a few things about improving your outdoor living space.”
As always, there will be a juried flower show going on throughout the weekend, and “how-to” seminars will be offered every 30 minutes throughout the duration of the show, from Friday morning until Sunday afternoon. Beer and wine are available for purchase in Barton Coliseum, and volunteers will provide free package holding while attendees retrieve their vehicles.
Tickets for this year’s show are $10 per day, or $15 for a three-day pass, and can be purchased at the fairgrounds or online through www.argardenshow.org. Children 12 and younger get in free.
The Arkansas Flower and Garden Show is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Revenue from tickets sales and vendor fees support Greening of Arkansas grants, which fund community beautification projects in public spaces around the state, and scholarships for college students studying horticulture in Arkansas.
