Coleman Creek cleanup, part of citywide, nationwide effort, postponed

LITTLE ROCK – A cleanup effort at Coleman Creek, originally scheduled to be part of Keep America Beautiful and the Keep Little Rock Beautiful events, has been postponed.
John Pennington, extension water quality educator for the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture, said Friday the cleanup, originally scheduled for March 14, had been postponed as a precaution in light of concern over the COVID-19 coronavirus. The state had six presumptive positives as of Friday.
Pennington said the Coleman Creek cleanup effort has been tentatively rescheduled for April 11.
The Division of Agriculture’s cleanup efforts, organized by Pennington and the Arkansas Watershed Steward Program, will focus on Coleman Creek, which flows next to the Cooperative Extension Service state headquarters and the UA-Little Rock campus. The creek is a tributary of Fourche Creek, which in turn flows into the Arkansas River, the Mississippi River and ultimately, the Gulf of Mexico. About 73 percent of the thousands of storm drains in Little Rock discharge into Fourche Creek.
