LITTLE ROCK – Pruning is an essential skill for growing healthy fruit-producing vines, canes and trees and growers can learn best practices at a workshop Feb. 15 at the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture’s Fruit Research Station in Clarksville.
The workshop is 1 p.m.-4 p.m. and the fee is $10. Attendees may register online at https://courses.uada.edu/course/view.php?id=655, or they can call the station at (479) 754-2406 to reserve a spot and then pay on-site.
Participants will have a short classroom session, followed by demonstrations in the field. The workshop will cover blueberries, blackberries, grapes, peaches and apples.
“This is an opportunity for people to learn or get a great refresher course in this important skill as it applies to a range of fruit crops in preparation for the upcoming growing season,” said Amanda McWhirt, extension specialist-horticulture, for the Division of Agriculture. “Attendees will be able to see the techniques up close and get immediate feedback to any questions.”
Instructors for the workshop are McWhirt, Dan Chapman, Fruit Research Station director; Taunya Ernst, program associate at the station; Ryan Neal, Benton County extension agent; and Elena Garcia, professor-horticulture, for the Division of Agriculture.
