LITTLE ROCK – The University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture and the Arkansas Natural Resources Commission will co-host an annual nonpoint source pollution stakeholder and project overview meeting, scheduled for Sept. 27-28.
State agencies, watershed organizations and others involved in water quality education in the state's 10 priority watersheds are invited to attend the meeting to learn the latest information regarding federal funding for water quality projects.
Kristin Higgins, Public Policy Center program associate for the Division of Agriculture, said the meeting will be an opportunity for concerned residents to network with other interested participants, as well as to learn about ongoing projects in the state’s watersheds.
“There are many people in Arkansas who work to improve the water quality of our local streams, rivers and lakes,” Higgins said. “This meeting is a time for them to get together —whether they're from a watershed organization or a state agency — and learn about the successes and challenges their colleagues are experiencing in the field.”
This year’s meeting will feature representatives from the ANRC and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency discussing upcoming funding issues, as well as presentations from several other agencies.
The two-day program is scheduled for Sept. 27-28 at the Cooperative Extension Service state office at 2301 S. University Ave. in Little Rock.

“Water quality doesn't often improve over night, so it's important for these agencies and organizations to celebrate their achievements and to reflect with others on how they can avoid some of the problems they had along the way,” Higgins said. “This is also an opportunity to hear from the EPA and Arkansas Natural Resources Commission representatives about funding for future nonpoint source pollution projects.”
