LITTLE ROCK – The annual Income Tax School, presented by the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture, will feature the same experienced instructors and continuing education credits, but with a streamlined schedule in 2016.

TAX SEASON -- Income tax schools enable taxpayers and tax preparers to sharpen their skills for the next tax year. 

The two-day tax schools organized by the Cooperative Extension Service are being held in November and December. The extension service is an IRS-approved continuing education provider.

“Tax laws change every year, and for more than three decades, the extension service has held this annual income tax school to help preparers and filers stay up-to-date,” said Kim Magee, extension community and economic development program associate for the U of A System Division of Agriculture. “The tax school isn’t just for professional tax preparers, but are also for farmers, small business owners and anyone else who wants the most complete and in-depth look at filing your 2016 tax returns.”

The instructors are tax experts with extensive experience with the Internal Revenue Service. Representatives from the State of Arkansas will also conduct sessions.

Classes are from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. The tax schools cover small business and farm tax issues. Topics to be covered include: S corporation shareholder issues, retirement, amending returns, ethics, agriculture issues and rural investments, individual taxpayer issues, S corporation entity issues, rulings and cases, small business issues, wealth accumulation and preservation, IRS update, trust and estate taxation and new developments.

  • Nov. 14-15, VAN BUREN – Holiday Inn Express & Suites, 1637 N. 12th Court Street.
  • Nov. 17-18, FAYETTEVILLE – Fayetteville Town Center, 15 West Mountain Street.
  • Nov. 28-29, JONESBORO – Delta Center for Economic Development (ON-CAMPUS site) 319 University Loop West.
  • Dec. 1-2, LITTLE ROCK –Cooperative Extension Service State Office - 2301 South University Avenue
  • Dec. 5-6, HOT SPRINGS – Clarion Resort on the Lake – 4813 Central Avenue

 The program meets the guidelines for 16 hours of credit for continuing professional education as defined by the State Board of Public Accountancy. The Cooperative Extension Service will provide tax manuals and reference materials for participants. Registration costs are $220 per person and lunch is included. 

Registration will be accepted until the last day of the conference provided space is available.
