LITTLE ROCK – Arkansans who want to learn to raise their own honeybees will have ample opportunity over the next year to learn these skills through a series of courses offered by the Cooperative Extension Service.

“Beekeeping has just taken off over the last decade,” said Jon Zawislak, extension apiculturist for the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture. “And in Arkansas hundreds of people have joined the beekeeping ranks in the last five years years.”

Zawislak offers comprehensive classes across Arkansas all year. His usual classes are once a week for three weeks, with each class covering a different aspect of beekeeping.

He’s posted his schedule of classes through September 2017 here: http://bit.ly/2dzVbe5.

The next sessions will be at Texarkana, Nov. 7, 14, 21. Contact the Miller County Extension office to register. Details may be found here: http://uaex.uada.edu/farm-ranch/special-programs/beekeeping/2016%20Texarkana%20Beekeeping%20class.pdf

There’s no cost to attend, but participants must register in advance to ensure enough materials for class members.

The University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture is an equal opportunity/equal access/affirmative action institution. If you require a reasonable accommodation to participate or need materials in another format, please contact your county extension office as soon as possible. Dial 711 for Arkansas Relay.

The University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture offers all its Extension and Research programs to all eligible persons regardless of race, color, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, religion, age, disability, marital or veteran status, genetic information, or any other legally protected status, and is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer.
