Beekeeping course to be offered in Mena

LITTLE ROCK – A three-part short course in beekeeping will be offered from 6 to 9 p.m. on April 11, 18 and 25 at the Polk County Cooperative Extension Education Center, 211 DeQueen Street, Mena, Arkansas.  Jon Zawislak, the apiculture instructor for the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture Cooperative Extension Service, will teach the course. Participants should plan to attend all three sessions. 

Topics to be covered include beehives and equipment, honey bee biology and behaviors, how and where to get bees, managing bee colonies, harvesting honey and beeswax, beehive pests and disease management, and honey bee laws and regulations. 

The classes are free and open to the public. Participants should register in advance by contacting the Polk County Extension Office at 479-394-6018.
