FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The team conducting research on water quality in the Big Creek tributary of the Buffalo River has posted its report for the second quarter of 2016, summarizing its work from April 1 to June 30.
The Big Creek Research and Extension Team has been collecting data at the creek since September 2013 after then-Gov. Mike Beebe commissioned the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture to examine potential impacts of a hog farm built near Big Creek.
The 122-page report includes information on trends in phosphorus, nitrogen and bacteria in Big Creek and findings to date for direct measurements taken near ponds, trenches, house well and ephemeral stream. Work by the team is not regulatory in nature.
The current report, as well as all previous ones, are available at www.bigcreekresearch.org.
