LITTLE ROCK — While the spectacular gardens, vendors and how-to talks may change, one thing has remained a constant through the 25 years of the Arkansas Flower and Garden Show: it funds scholarships for students and grants for beautification projects.
“Education has truly been at the root of the Arkansas Flower and Garden Show,” said Krista Quinn, the show’s executive director. “The scholarships have benefited horticulture students at the University of Arkansas, Arkansas Tech, Arkansas State University and Southern Arkansas University.
“And on a personal level, I was fortunate enough to be one of the early scholarship recipients,” she said. “Working for the show is a way of giving back to the organization that helped me earn my college degree and it's incredibly rewarding that we continue to support the next generation of horticulture professionals in the state.”
This year’s silver anniversary show will be Feb. 26-28 at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock.
This year’s show speakers include lifestyle and gardening television host P. Allen Smith, Billy Goodnick, author and landscape architect for the city of Santa Barbara, Extension Horticulture Specialist, author and columnist Janet Carson of the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture, and Jon Zawislak, extension apiculturist, whose beekeeping short courses fill up almost as soon as they’re offered.
The show is open 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, including a special event “Rock in the Garden” with a live band, cooking demos and a walkabout with Goodnick. Show hours on Saturday are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Sunday.
Tickets are available online or at the door. Adults are $10, a three-day pass is $15. Admission is free for children 12 years old and younger.
