P. Allen Smith to speak at 25th anniversary Arkansas Flower and Garden Show

LITTLE ROCK — Gardening and lifestyle guru P. Allen Smith will be part of the speaker lineup at the 25th anniversary Arkansas Flower and Garden Show on Feb. 26-28 at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock.
Smith will be speaking on “Connect: Health, Home and Happiness” at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 27, at the Wally Allen Ballroom on the third floor of the Statehouse Convention Center. His presentation is included with the regular admission price to the show.
“We’re excited to have P. Allen Smith speaking at this milestone show,” said Krista Quinn, executive director of the Arkansas Flower and Garden Show. “Smith spoke at our first show and now he’s come full circle, joining us again for anniversary No. 25.”
She said that “over the years, he’s reached millions through his television programs and we are pleased he’ll be lending his voice to an event that, from its beginnings 25 years ago, has existed to provide an education in horticulture.”
This year’s show speakers include Billy Goodnick, author and landscape architect for the city of Santa Barbara, Extension Horticulture Specialist, author and columnist Janet Carson of the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture, and Jon Zawislak, extension apiculturist, whose beekeeping short courses fill up almost as soon as they’re offered.
Proceeds from the Arkansas Flower and Garden Show go to fund scholarships for horticulture students and for the Greening of Arkansas program, which provides grants for community beautification projects across the state. Since 2006, the Arkansas Flower and Garden Show has given $61,000 in scholarships and more than $65,000 in grants.
The show is open 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, including a special event “Rock in the Garden” with a live band, cooking demos and a walkabout with Goodnick. Show hours on Saturday are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Sunday.
Tickets are available online or at the door. Adults are $10, a three-day pass is $15. Admission is free for children 12 years old and younger.
