LITTLE ROCK – Mineral leases can provide additional income, but they also come with additional responsibilities. Hear the industry, regulatory and legal perspectives at a workshop Dec. 17 in Searcy.

“Mineral leases: What you need to know about lease end, water quality and your estate plan”will be held from 5:30 p.m.-8 p.m. at Arkansas State University-Searcy, in room TE127 in the Technology East building. There’s no cost to attend.

The workshop is sponsored by the Southern Risk Management Education Center and the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture’s Public Policy Center.

“Arkansans found themselves in mineral lease agreements with drilling companies, but may want to explore some of the other rights and responsibilities included,” said Amanda Perez, extension program associate for the Public Policy Center. “These issues include what happens when the lease ends, how a lease will impact their estate planning or what water quality issues might involved.”

Speakers for this event are:

    • Shane Khoury with the Arkansas Oil and Gas Commission will talk about the state of oil and gas, provide an overview of AOGC’s role and discuss recent commission regulations.
    • Jessie Green with Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality will talk about water quality risks from natural gas.
    • Rusty Rumley, of the National Agricultural Law Center will discuss expiring mineral leases and the impact to land use and estate planning.

For more information or to RSVP for the event, contact Amanda Perez, aperez@uada.edu or by phone, to 501-671-2228.
