LITTLE ROCK  -- The Cooperative Extension Service will work in partnership with the Arkansas Farmers’ Market Association to host its annual conference Friday, Feb. 6 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Cooperative Extension Service headquarters in Little Rock.

Speakers will address topics including newer, cheaper and more user-friendly ways of accepting SNAP benefits from customers; farm to school partnerships; food safety; and how to use social media more effectively.

Organizers will give updates on market development grants, including an expansion in Arkansas Parks and Tourism grant programs that will include farmers’ markets. Speakers will also discuss the training rollout to assist grant applicants.

“With the level of interest in local food steadily rising, market managers should by all means attend the 2015 AFMA Annual Meeting, which will provide them with diverse resources to both expand their markets and serve their customers more effectively,” said Beverly Dunaway, an Extension Arkansas MarketMaker program associate who works closely with AFMA.

Farmers’ market managers will be able to join AFMA and learn of the association’s planned activities for 2015 at the conference.

through Feb. 2. Lunch will be provided at no cost. Reservations are needed for an accurate count for materials and meal. After Feb. 2, please call 501-671-2344 for more information or to register.
