There's a link between nutrition, physical activity, and the well-being of individuals and families. The typical Arkansas diet has too much fat and added sugar but does not include enough fruits, vegetables, and whole-grains. This diet, in conjunction with too little physical activity contributes to the development of serious health problems. Extension offers a variety of programs to address this and other health related issues.
Family life is full of challenges, but when we make wise choices, it can be rewarding. We offer a number of programs designed for every stage of family life that will make your family more effective and fulfilling.

In an era where organizations are struggling to maintain members, the Woodruff County Extension Homemakers are still an active organization. The Woodruff County Homemaker Club are members and people just like you. They are homemakers, working moms and grandmothers, retired women striving to learn everything that can make them and their families better. The mission of the Extension Homemakers organization shall be to empower individuals and families to improve their quality of living through continuing education, leadership development and community service. Woodruff County has one club (Fakes Chapel) with 30 members located in McCrory. The club has at least one main community project which varies from corsage workshops to lap robes and afghans for nursing home residents. The Fakes Chapel EHC club also makes teaching dolls for the Arkansas Children Hospital.
4-H is a fun and educational program where kids "learn by doing". It's a great opportunity for youth to acquire knowledge and skills, and develop healthy lifestyles they can use the rest of their lives. 4-H Clubs are organized groups of boys and girls who elect officers and are supported by adult volunteer leaders. The 4-H Club conducts meetings and activities throughout the year. Club meetings include conducting some business by officers, an educational program and a team building or recreational activity. Four-H is part of the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture and reaches more than 134,000 youth. Anyone ages 5-19 can join 4-H. To learn more about becoming a 4-H leader or volunteer or about 4-H programming, contact Leigh Ann Bullington at the Woodruff County Extension Office- 870-347-2556.
