Agriculture
An important part of Perry County with over 453 farms and over 72,500 acres in agriculture
production. Perry County Extension provides information and advice in all areas of
agriculture. Areas include:
- Livestock – cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, horses, and poultry
- Forages – rotational grazing, pasture management, pasture planning, renovation
- Row Crops – soybeans, rice, corn, wheat, and other crops, irrigation
- Sod – turf management, seed production
- Commercial Horticulture – fruits, vegetables, ornamentals, greenhouses and nurseries
- Agribusiness - farm budgets, estate planning
- Pest Management – pesticide training, fire ant management, wildlife
- Forestry - management, silvopasture
- Soil Testing (Free) – all we need is a pint of soil to make a recommendation
- Hay Testing (Small fee) – find out what you are feeding your livestock
- Home gardening – fruits, vegetables, ornamentals, irrigation

Community & Economic Development
Perry County is a growing county with over 10,000 residents, There are great opportunities
and challenges as Perry County faces the future. Perry County Extension provides research
based information for government officials, community leaders, and business leaders
in the areas of community and economic development.
- Entrepreneurship – information on starting a business and possible government contracts that may be
available
- Government Finance – information and analysis about how the county government is financed and possible
sources of additional revenue and savings
- Ballot Issues – unbiased information about issues that appear on state and local ballots
- Leadership Development – training for governmental, community and business leaders
- Economic Development – information and analysis of economic trends and opportunities within the county
and region
