Three Day Horticulture Workshop

TEXARKANA, Ark. –

Join us for an educational three-day horticulture workshop, offered by the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture in Miller County. This workshop is FREE and open to the public.  The only requirement is that you must pre-register by calling us at 870-779-3609 prior to the workshop.

These workshops will be held Wednesday through Friday, October 26th, 27th, and 28th, 2016, from 8:30 – 3:00. The workshops will be held at the 1st Presbyterian Church, 516 Pecan Street, Texarkana, AR.

Janet Carson, Extension Horticulture Specialist and State Coordinator of Arkansas Master Gardner Program, will be here on Day 1 to teach us about Herbaceous Plant Materials (Annuals and Perennials), Pruning Ornamentals and Herbs and Houseplants. Miller County Agriculture Agent, Jennifer Caraway will teach us Companion Planting for Insect Control.

Day 2 brings us Insects: Good and Bad by one of our own Master Gardener, along with Lawn Selection and Management and Weeds in the Lawn: ID and Control, with Pulaski County Extension Agent. Then Dr. Jon Barry, Ph.D., Extension Forester, at the SW Research & Extension Station will teach us about Native Trees and Invasive Species.

Sherrie Smith, Plant Pathologist with the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture, will teach Introduction to Plant Diseases and Diseases of Roses while John Gavin, Agriculture Agent in Bradley County, will teach us about Garden Basics and Crop Rotation and Tomatoes. Lastly, we have Master Gardener, James Lamb who will teach us about Cool Season Crops (cole crops, onions, spinach, etc.).

These workshops are come and go so you can choose the topics that interest you or stay all day each day.

The Master Gardener Basic Training was canceled for 2016 but will be offered again in the fall of 2017. If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a Master Gardener, please contact our office for an application for 2017.
