Howard County 4-H Members Attend Washington Focus in our Nation's Capitol

Nashville, Ark. – Two Howard County 4-H members spent a week, July 2 – July 9, in our nation’s capital learning about how

government works and touring memorials and other points of interest. The group joined other 4-H members from across Arkansas and the United States at the National 4-H Conference Center in Chevy Chase, Maryland, just outside of Washington D.C.

While in Washington, the group toured Mt. Vernon, and spent a day at the capitol. They visited all the national memorials including the Jefferson, Washington Monument, Lincoln, and war memorials. One day included a trip to Arlington National Cemetery where the group experienced the changing of the guard and visiting the gravesites of past presidents and those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Several of the Smithsonian Museums were included in the trip. The week also included several workshops where the members learned how they could make a difference in their communities. 

Washington Focus is an educational program offered through the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture 4-H Youth programs. The group was sponsored locally by the Howard County 4-H Foundation.
