   <description>Driving northeast along U.S. Highway 54 from Tucumcari, New Mexico to Guymon, Oklahoma, I felt I was traveling along the roof of the world even though most of the terrain was tabletop flat and only about 4,000 feet above sea level. So flat I almost felt as if I could see the curvature of the earth in the distance. This area was part of the great inland sea, the Western Interior Seaway that once occupied this space and shaped the Great Plains from Canada through Texas.</description>
