Cloverbud Camp 2016
Ashdown, Ark. –
We had a great time at the Cloverbud Day Camp on Thursday, May 26th! Cloverbud campers ages 5-8 were introduced to the activities that 4H has to offer. The morning was full of activities including science experiments and teamwork activities as well as making healthy snacks and building a habitat for worms to take home. The campers were excited to learn about how worms help to provide proper nutrients for the soil which helps to grow our fruits and vegetables. Each camper got to design their own bag to take home. They tested their strength with the strength experiment. They also got to learn how energy works by using balloons to generate energy. Each activity at Cloverbud camp covered a project area in 4H. There are over 100 project areas that youth can be involved in through 4H!
One of the snacks we made during Cloverbud Camp was the Lemon Berry Smoothie. Smoothies are always a nice treat that kids can make with the help of an adult. It is a hit with the campers! Each serving has ½ cup of fruit.
Here’s the recipe so you can try it for yourself!
LEMON BERRY SMOOTHIE
4 oz lemon flavored carbonated water
1 cup frozen strawberries
¼ cup lemon sherbet
½ cup non-fat, no sugar added vanilla frozen yogurt
1 large strawberry
Combine carbonated water, strawberries, lemon sherbet, and frozen yogurt in a blender. Blend until smooth. Pour into two large glasses. Serve and enjoy immediately.
You can modify this smoothie recipe and use orange sherbet or raspberry sherbet to
fit your taste.
Per serving this smoothie has 106 calories, 22 g carbohydrate, and 3 grams dietary fiber.
Remember the Little River County Extension office always has activities and events that youth ages 5-19 can participate in with 4H! This summer we have a series of 4H day camps for ages 9-19 on Tuesdays and Thursdays in June and July. Each day camp will be open to any child ages 9-19 and will be located at UA Cossatot in Ashdown unless otherwise noted. Pre-registration is required so call soon to sign up! The first one will be Pick & Jam on June 21st and 22nd where we will go to the Southwest Research Center in Hope to pick berries and then the next day we will make homemade jam. The next day camp will be Cake Decorating on June 28th where we will have fun learning how to decorate cakes and make homemade cake pops. On June 30th we will learn about nutrients in soil and each participant will make a habitat for worms to take home. A photography workshop will be held on July 7th. The final week of camps will include a healthy snack workshop on July 12th and you will not want to miss the STEM workshop (science, technology, engineering and math) on July 14th.
