Summer Safety

Hydration is very important with the hot summer temperatures.

June 24, 2015

Ashdown, Ark. –

We are now officially in the summer season! How do you make sure your family is safe during these hot summer days?  One of the first major things to remember this summer is to avoid heatstroke related injury by never leaving a child alone in a car. Do not leave them in the car even for one minute. Create reminders to help you remember the sleeping child in the backseat. Consider placing your cell phone or purchase next to the child so you will remember to take them with you. If you see a child left alone in a car, call the emergency personnel immediately.

Everyone needs to make sure they stay hydrated during the summer, but this is especially true for children and teens. If you ever suspect heat related illness, call emergency personnel and take the individual to the hospital.  Sun safety is also very important, even when it is a cloudy day. Make sure to apply sunscreen with at least SPF 15 or higher 20 minutes before going outside. Never let children swim alone; always make sure there is an adult who is watching. Make sure to apply bug spray or use insect repellant. You can also consider staying inside at dusk when most of the mosquitoes come out.
Enjoy this smoothie to keep you hydrated this summer!
