The Best of the Mediterranean Diet Class Being Offered

If there were a simple diet plan that would make you less likely to develop heart disease, lower your blood pressure and cholesterol, and help prevent diabetes and certain cancers, would you follow it? If you answered yes, there is good news for you.

Nashville, Ark. – If there were a simple diet plan that would make you less likely to develop heart disease, lower your blood pressure and cholesterol, and help prevent diabetes and certain cancers, would you follow it? If you answered yes, there is good news for you. The Mediterranean diet is associated with lower risk of heart disease, hypertension, cancer, diabetes and obesity.

You’ll have the opportunity to learn more about this healthy way of eating through the best of the Mediterranean Cooking Class being offered through University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service on Tuesday, July 19 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The class is being conducted by County Extension Agent-Family & Consumer Science agent, Jean Ince and will be held at the Howard County Extension Homemakers Educational Center in Nashville. It is being sponsored in part through a Blue & You grant awarded to Hometown Health Coalition. A charge of $10.00 will be charged to cover materials and supplies. This cooking school will involve hands-on food preparation, trying out and tasting new recipes.

The Mediterranean diet emphasizes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts  and legumes seasoned with olive oil and flavorful herbs and spices; fish and seafood a few times a week; poultry, eggs, cheese, and yogurt in moderation; and sweets and red meat eaten.

To participate in the Best of the Mediterranean Cooking School or for more information, contact the Howard County Extension Office at 870-845-7517 or visit our office located on the second floor of the courthouse in Nashville.
