Arkansas Procurement Technical Assistance Center Success Story: Five Hats LLC

by Kim Magee - August 16, 2019

Brady Knight, owner of Five Hats, LLC in Mena, says that his business can be a little difficult to describe.

Five Hats mainly does business in the federal marketplace and consists of repairs and alterations to government buildings. They usually employ two to three people depending on the workload.

Their jobs have ranged from removing downed power lines in Big Bend National Park in Texas to finding a small water leak on a government building in Hodgkin, Oklahoma.  Knight enjoys doing “off the wall” type jobs and enjoys the history behind the jobs and the buildings in which they work.

Five Hats has been in business since 2005. They became an Arkansas Procurement Technical Assistance Center client in 2010. When they started their transition to a Limited Liability Company (LLC) status in 2015, Arkansas APEX Accelerator Counselor Max Franks assisted in the process.

Knight discovered our services through one of his government contacts. Since becoming a client, his company has received almost 10 government contracts. The most recent contract was awarded in May of 2019.

They are about to begin work on a contract with United States Department of Agriculture Research Service: installing new metal roofing on two Fayetteville buildings following recent storm damage. Replacing the existing shingles with this particular type of roofing is labor intensive, but Knight is looking forward to the challenge.

May was a big month for Five Hats as the company received an even larger government contract with the Department of Interior for removing HVAC systems and installing heat pumps.

Knight has found the Bid Match service provided by Arkansas APEX Accelerator to be a very useful tool and often finds contracts of interest to his business through this service. Due to his satisfaction with the services offered, Knight has recommended Arkansas APEX Accelerator to several of his contacts.

“Max is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. He gives me the sense of someone backing me up every step of the way. I appreciate the step-by-step assistance that Max provides,” Knight said.
