Yell County Uncommon Communities is Reaching Out
“Yell County Uncommon Communities has been successful in Dardanelle, and we wanted
to reach out
and invite the rest of Yell County to be a part of it,” said Mike Merritt, chairman
of Mission Dardanelle.
“We have a lot in common and we can learn a lot from each other and support each other moving forward,” he said March 6 when speaking to community leaders from Yell County at a meeting in Danville.
Merritt described several projects underway: developing
a website and community calendar, a 50 American flags project, a directory of support
services, a community garden, a lawn of the month program, a community amphitheater,
and community-wide clean-up.
Samantha Evans, Program Officer with the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute and coordinator of the Uncommon Communities Program, reinforced the message. She encouraged community leaders from Danville and other communities to become involved by forming their own group, but participating in Yell County Uncommon Communities. The latter would become an umbrella group and would meet on a quarterly basis to hear reports and explore how to support each other and work together. There was strong support for this idea, and we look forward to excellent things happening in Yell County.
