Breakthrough Solutions' Incredible Story of the Month: Kodak, the Digital Camera, and the Fate of Rochester, NY
This is an incredible story about a very successful company that did not see the future - although it was staring it in the face - and how that lack of vision decimated a community. Kodak dominated the photographic film industry in the 20th century. When Steve Sasson, a Kodak engineer, invented a self-contained digital camera, they asked him why he would do this, and rejected the idea. They didn't think anybody would ever want it. Subsequently, 55,000 workers lost their jobs as the market moved to digital, with devastating consequences for Rochester, NY. You can see the story in a Youtube video: FutureWork: A Story of Yesterday & Today. So what is staring you in the face that will impact the future of your community? |
