Quadros and agents with the Cooperative Extension Service will lead a River Valley Small Ruminant Conference on April 13 in Russellville to provide goat and sheep producers with the latest research for successful operations. The conference runs 8:50 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in Williamson Dining Hall at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville. Registration begins at 8:15 a.m.

The conference is free, but registration is required. A lunch with lamb burgers will be provided. To register, visit www.uaex.uada.edu/river-valley-small-ruminants.

“We’ll be sharing research and talking about the benefits of small ruminants and their suitability for small farm operations,” Quadros said. “We want to highlight the benefits of adding small ruminants to cattle operations, such as weed control in pastures, increased land use efficiency and extra profit.

The conference is the first of its kind in the River Valley in recent years. Organizers hope to draw attendees from the counties that comprise the River Valley, including Conway, Faulkner, Franklin, Johnson, Logan, Perry, Pope, Sebastian and Yell.

Extension agriculture agents from several counties will be at the conference, along with producers, consultants and speakers from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
